If you have no idea what Trover Saves the Universe is, here’s the description of the game on the website:
Your dogs have been dognapped by a beaked lunatic named Glorkon who stuffed them into his eye holes and is using their life essence to destroy the universe. You’re partnered with Trover, a little purple eye-hole monster who isn’t a huge fan of working or being put in the position of having to save the universe. He’s also not that big a fan of you quite frankly, and neither am I.
(Jk, you’re great)
Only you and Trover can save everything in this bizarre comedy adventure,
Can you guess who made this game after reading that?

Co-creator of Rick and Morty Justin Roiland! Trover Saves the Universe was released in May and I figured I’d save my review for November, the month we get new R&M episodes, my glip-glops!
So let’s review this video game, and “eat some f*****g shit you f*****g dumb bitch.”
Positives
- Free DLC! What a weird concept that if you pay for a full game then DLC should be free *looking at you EA, Rockstar… uhhhh, pretty much any gaming company. I haven’t gotten to play much of the DLC but good for Squanch Games for not being dicks!
- It feels like you’re playing an spin-off episode of R&M. The comedy is improv-Justin Roiland just going off script at will, and it makes the dialogue between Trover (the main character) and you the Chairorpian hysterical. If you don’t move the character and let the game sit idle, Trover (voiced by Roiland) will go on those long, random, stutter-filled rants. It’s hard to describe so here’s a lengthy video of what I’m talking about. Feel free not to watch all of it (shoutout Gamergrade).
- Gameplay is simple. You control Trover to attack enemies, pick up & move objects, jump, and interact with things. That’s pretty much it! But it’s fun like an arcade game and for… 25 bucks (I think… may have been 30) it’s damn worth it! It’s… satisfying but I also have a negative with it.
- The characters you interact with and talk to are fricken hilarious. Once again, it’s classic Rick & Morty randomness.

- SPOILER AHEAD………………… The ending is incredible. You pretty much lose by blowing up the universe BUT you also win because then everybody ends up in the afterlife where all the characters you’ve met are in a state of orgasm pretty much lol. So damn funny.
- Maybe the favorite part of the game is they make “collecting power babies” seem like such a big part and it will help you get upgrades, blah, blah… but at the end they’re for absolutely nothing except a trophy on your PlayStation account lol. One big fat troll!
- It breaks the 4th wall every other second. The characters mention stuff like checking how to beat levels online. Too good.
- Lastly, it’s so god damn funny. I know I already said it but there were multiple times where I was, as the kids say, LMAO.
Negatives
- There is very little content to this game outside the goofy dialogue. I think half the reason I think it’s empty is because I loved South Park: The Stick of Truth and I naturally compared the two. There’s stuff to collect and side quests in Stick of Truth but there’s none of that in Trover. It’s just the main story and power babies and that’s it. Maybe there’s more DLC coming though.
- The gameplay is a plus for the most part. It’s a fun, simple game but maybe too simple for too long. For a while, Trover’s only attack is a regular attack. He get’s more upgrades later on, but it remains very simple and can drag out the game.
Overall Grade: B
Fun, entertaining, solid. It’s definitely not my #1 choice of style for a video game. I’m really into the open world GTA’s, RDR’s and the South Parks (more fleshed out) so it hinders the overall grade for me. The dialogue alone is worth the buy and it’s an easy game to roll through in a day or two. It’s kind of like Heroin Hero in South Park. Overall, I liked it!
